Air quality outside…
Air quality is today a common problem to almost all bigger cities, and for this reason is continuously monitored and checked. Not only industrial pollution but also traffic pollution. Most of the economic activities are situated in urban areas where almost the 80% of European population lives.
As everyone knows air pollution causes environmental problems and also health problems.
And what about Air Quality INSIDE the buildings where we live?
Indoor air quality, indicated as IAQ, is related to the quality of the air inside and around the building and that can have effects on the comfort and health of people inside.
We usually think of air pollution as pollution outdoors, but the air in houses or offices could also be polluted. In particular indoor air quality can be effected by :
- Cigarettes smoke
- Household products
- Gases (for example radon and carbon monoxide)
After a period spent inside a building/room, some people show symptoms caused right from their stay in that place.
Usually indoor air quality problems only cause discomfort. To feel better often it is enough to remove the source of the pollution or to ventilate the room. However, some pollutants can cause diseases that show up much later, such as respiratory diseases or cancer.
The most important method to improve air quality inside building is use of source control, filtration and ventilation systems.
